"For the flag produced at Piacé le Radieux, it's a question of asking what "French" is. And French is a fabric, which means that it is not just "from", but also like the fabric from which the flag is made. It is because millions of people have crossed paths over the ages, and because there have been so many opportunities to say things - to think things, to hear someone say something, to not understand each other, to have to clarify things - that French as a language, and as the bond of a grouping called France, has come into being."

Joël Auxenfans was born in 1962 and lives and works in the south of the Hauts-de-Seine department. He has made a name for himself with large-scale works (including plants) that are always determined by a purely artistic intention, while remaining at the limits of the work of a landscape artist: a project on the edge of the landscape between painting and nature. For the last ten years or so, he has been painting representations of the political and public spheres.
