CLAES OLDENDURG / EDITIONS & MULTIPLES
Claes Oldenburg (1929-....), an American artist of the Pop Art movement, is best known for his monumental installations for public spaces, "Colossal monuments" and "Giant objects". Often created jointly with his wife Coosje van Bruggen (1942-2009), these installations, replicas of everyday objects, take a critical and humorous look at consumer society. It's a view we find again in another facet of Claes Oldenburg's work that is just as fundamental, if less well known: the production of multiples (from the 1960s to the present day). These works, intended to be produced in multiple copies, redefine the distribution and reception of art, "art made for ordinary people, accessible in ordinary ways".
The exhibition on the ground floor of the Moulin de Blaireau brings together a series of editions (posters, prints, books) and multiples by the artist from private collections.
Exhibition open from 23 June to 29 July 2018 on Saturdays and Sundays from 2.30pm to 6.30pm and by appointment during the week.
