"Your ceramics have real value, but who can appreciate them? Patience and length of time...". Le Corbusier, letter to Norbert Bézard, 1955.

From 22 June to 07 July 2013, the Piacé le radieux, Bézard - Le Corbusier association will be presenting the fifth edition of La Quinzaine radieuse, an event that will focus primarily on ceramics, as it celebrates the artistic experiment, long overlooked, that Norbert Bézard (1896-1956) conducted towards the end of his life and which received the support and admiration of Le Corbusier. The friendship between Bézard and Le Corbusier was not new: in the early 1930s, they had worked together on a project to redevelop the countryside, of which the Village Radieux remains the most visible expression today.

Norbert Bézard, ceramist

Set design by R & E Bouroullec / Photographs by Lucien Hervé

The original exhibition "Norbert Bézard, céramiste d'art" (Norbert Bézard, an artistic ceramist), with scenography by designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, is the fruit of research carried out by the Piacé le radieux association. Co-produced with the Centre culturel de la Sarthe, it presents all the ceramics and paintings by Norbert Bézard that have been identified to date, over 80 unique pieces dating from the 1950s and coming from private collections, the Fondation Le Corbusier and the Chapelle de Ronchamp. The exhibition is accompanied by photographs by Lucien Hervé, who made a report on Norbert Bézard's studio in 1953.

To mark the exhibition, a book has been published by Somogy and an illustrative plate of the Chapelle de Ronchamp has been reissued by the Piacé le radieux association. Extracts from the correspondence between Norbert Bézard and Le Corbusier will be read in public by the actress Mireille Perrier.
