Prefabricated housing made of wood and homasote (compacted cardboard), the UK-100 American bungalows are one of several models of barracks (French model 534.10, Canadian, Swedish, Swiss, etc.) designed for disaster victims in the aftermath of the Second World War. UK 100" bungalows (UK for United Kingdom100 for the number of units making up the bungalow), also known as the "britain house" or "American barrack", were produced from 1942 in the United States in reinforced cardboard and wood by four factories, including "The city lumber company" in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In France, they were proposed by the Ministry of Reconstruction and Town Planning (MRU) from 1945, to rehouse disaster victims as part of the country's reconstruction following the Second World War. In the UK, there was a similar Houses for Britain programme.
