Stoned happy face, Jocelyn Villemont, 2011

Les Bains-Douches depot Alençon

Straight out of the film 'Hard Times', which the artist made in 2O11, 'Stoned Happy Face' is on show at the Bains-Douches art centre in Alençon, as part of the 'Voices Green and Purple' exhibition featuring Yvan Etienne and Jocelyn Villemont. Leaving the exhibition space for its natural environment (the piece is thought to have originated somewhere on the coast of Brittany in the Palaeolithic period), the smiley joined the Piacé art trail, finding its place among other stones in a waterfall. It's an incongruous encounter for visitors, who, at the sight of this beautiful anachronistic object, might well smile back : )
