ABOUT

Pique the radiant

is an art centre dedicated to architecture, design and contemporary art. A place for reflection and research into the local area and heritage, it is also a place for the dissemination and promotion of contemporary creation. It is located in Piacé (between Le Mans and Alençon), a small village in the Sarthe region that was the subject of an architectural project by Le Corbusier (1887-1965) and Norbert Bézard (1896-1956) in the 1930s: La Ferme radieuse et le village coopératif. This utopian, unbuilt project is the breeding ground for the art centre and its rhizomic actions aimed at interweaving heritage, culture and nature...

A Le Corbusier site

Piacé le radieux is part of the Destinations Le Corbusier: architectural walks itinerary, certified as a "Council of Europe Cultural Itinerary" in 2019 and covering 21 towns, 6 countries and 24 of Le Corbusier's architectural sites. Proposed by the Association des Sites Le Corbusier, this cultural itinerary encourages travellers to discover the whole of Le Corbusier's work and his influence in Europe and beyond. At Piacé, visitors are invited to discover the utopian rural development project dreamed up by Le Corbusier and Norbert Bézard in the 1930s. A permanent exhibition entitled La ferme radieuse et le village coopératif (The Radiant Farm and the Cooperative Village) is held in a space dedicated to the project: the Espace Bézard - Le Corbusier, which also houses ceramics, drawings and paintings by Norbert-Bézard.

Exhibition areas

In support of contemporary creation, the art centre hosts temporary exhibitions on architecture, contemporary art and design, as well as concerts, lectures, performances and more. There are two types of event: the Capsules radieuses (spring and autumn) and the Quinzaine radieuse (summer festival). They take place on different sites in the village, former heritage or commercial buildings transformed into exhibition venues: Le Moulin du Blaireau and its garden, La Grange noire, Le Kub d'Or, La chapelle Saint-Léger etc.

A journey through contemporary art, architecture and design

Piacé le radieux regularly invites artists, architects and designers to explore the links between modernity and rurality. A trail of sixty works (microarchitectures, sculptures, installations, etc.) is accessible all year round in the village and surrounding countryside.
Among the microarchitectures: 3 Bulles Six Coques by Jean-Benjamin Maneval, a Tétrodon by A.U.A., a Hexacube by Georges Candilis (on loan from Clémént Cividino Ent.)...
Works by: Stéphane Vigny, Neal Beggs, Anita Molinero, François Curlet, Christian Ragot, Séverine Hubard, Nicolas Milhé, Jacques Julien, Lilian Bourgeat, Jef Geys,Pierre Huyghe...

Workshops, residencies, mediation, publications
