OLIVIER O.
Mariposa exhibition
Moulin de Blaireau and Grange noire

Mariposa (Spanish for butterfly) is the name of a cape pass in bullfighting. The bullfighter holds the cape behind his back and passes it back and forth like the wings of a butterfly. This is also the title of a small oil painting by Olivier O. Olivier in which, through a mysterious chrysalis, the bull has been transformed into a kite-like skylight and the bullfighter into a curious winged insect. This is now also the title of a whirlwind exhibition devoted to O. O. O. in Piacé!
Spread over three separate spaces, this exhibition is a condensed version of Olivier O. Olivier's work. More than a chronological or thematic display, the techniques in which Olivier O. Olivier was a virtuoso have guided the choice of scenography: charcoal exhibited in the black barn, paintings and watercolours in the Moulin de Blaireau, pastels in the Kub d'Or. The exhibition features Olivier O. Olivier's favourite themes - circular landscapes, still lifes, animals, bullfighting - and above all the spirit of the artist, imbued with both humour and poetry.
Olivier O. Olivier, whose real name was Pierre-Marie Olivier, son of the painter Ferdinand Olivier, was born on 1 May 1931 in Paris. In 1954, he obtained a degree in philosophy from the Sorbonne, then entered the École des Beaux-Arts, where he became friends with Roland Topor. In 1955, he became a member of the Collège de Pataphysique and, in 1964, joined the Panique group alongside Fernando Arrabal, Alejandro Jodorowski, Roland Topor, Christian Zeimert and Jacques Sternberg. In 1999, he joined OUPEINPO ("Ouvroir de Peinture Potentielle"). As a painter, draughtsman, pastellist and etcher, Olivier O. Olivier inflicted surprising diversions on things and beings that nonetheless seemed perfectly natural, and, from canvas to canvas, created a world of rare poetic intensity. He died in 2011, three weeks before his eightieth birthday.
